Baseball News of the Day

The Phillies signed outfielder Brad Wilkinson to a minor league deal. Wilkinson was thought to have retired in April of 2009. The Phillies have also signed outfielders Chris Duffy and Dewayne Wise this winter. Wise of course, is remembered to have saved Mark Buehrle’s perfect game with a leaping catch.

Infielder Aaron Boone retired today and will join ESPN as an analyst. He retires with a career .263 batting average, 126 homeruns, and 555 RBI’s. He played for a baseball family. His grandfather Ray Boone was an allstar for the Detroit Tigers. His father Bob Boone was a four time allstar. He was most remembered for hitting a walkoff homerun in game seven of the American League Championship Series to beat the Red Sox’s and send them to the World Series against the Marlins. aaron-boone-home-run-2003.jpg
A funny story on the web, a Kansas City Royals Fan is suing the team $25,000. You know why? The royals mascot was throwing hot dogs into the crowd at Kauffman Stadium, and one hit a fan in the eye, claiming it gave him a detached retina and cataracts. Know how crazy is that? sluggerrr-mascot2-1.jpg
There is an interesting article up on www.faketeams.com about how Gordon Beckham could be the next Chase Utley. Let me just state that nobody could be Chase Utley. beckham.jpg
On the www.mlb.com page, there is a quote from a blog on the lefthand side at the bottom. Some how they chose a quote from my blog on just my second post. Check it out.
I will update if anything comes out. I will be posting an article later on the Phillies 5th starter spot.

2010 Spring Training is here!

There may still be snow on the ground, but the presence of baseball is in the air. The smell of freshly cut grass is in our minds, and sitting in the hot ballpark seats. Cheering on your favorite teams and players. The crack of bubblegum in the dugout. The spitting of seeds everywhere. The smack of a baseball in a leather glove. The thud of a bat. Every team is in first place, and everyone has hope. Get ready for baseball. phillies.jpg

Baseball News of the Day

Today Manny Ramirez said 2010 will be his last year in Dodger blue. What do you think is next for Manny? Could he go into retirement? He said last year that he would like to be back with the Indians, the team he broke into the bigs with as a rookie.

The Reds re-signed Jonny Gomes to a one year deal, with a mutual option for 2011. Gomes, 29, hit .267 last year in 314 at-bats. In addition, Jonny hit 20 homeruns.
The World Champion Yankees signed former Phillie pitcher Chan Ho Park to a one year deal. Park won the Phillies fifth rotation spot out of spring training last year, only to lose it to J.A. Happ. He was the only Phillies pitcher to hit a homerun last year. Park, 36, had a 2.70 ERA out of the bullpen last year, and 73 K’s in total.
If you haven’t heard yet, Jayson Werth grew out his beard this winter. He looks more like a lumberjack than a right fielder. Ryan Howard is saying there is “unfinished business” left after last year’s defeat in the World Series. Brad Lidge says he is feeling good after throwing 20 pitches off a mound today after elbow and knee surgeries. All of the pitches he threw were fastballs.
I will update if any more news comes up. If you have any questions about the post, blog, or anything baseball, ask in the comments.
